It’s time to take a fresh look at Durham’s parks and recreation programs and develop a new Plan to Play More.  We need your input to create a plan that reflects the unique character and people of our community. What type of recreation opportunities would you like to see in Durham?  What parks, programs, and facilities will most benefit the enjoyment and well-being of your family and community?

The Plan to Play More will be the blueprint for (1) recommendations for new facilities and new programs, (2) changes to existing parks and programs, and (3) the process of how decisions on system changes will be made.  The goal is providing recreation opportunities for all residents while remaining flexible enough to adapt to changes in recreation trends and to seize development and partnership opportunities that might occur.

Public participation in this process is crucial so that priorities accurately reflect the public’s desires for the system.  This Mindmixer site is one key part of the process of collecting public input.  A written survey will also be sent to a representative group of residents, asking for some of the same information that is on this web site.  A Steering Committee of Durham residents will be holding a series of community meetings in October and November to solicit community members’ ideas and opinions.  This same Steering Committee will oversee the drafting of the master plan and will then take that draft back out to the public for comment.  The City Manager will also review the draft and make comments.  Finally, the City Council will review the plan and decide on its adoption.

If you want to be involved in developing a new Plan to Play More with Durham’s Parks and Recreation Department, please take part in this process!  Thank You.
